Wombles Against The Odds

We head to “The Fans’ Stadium” Kingsmeadow tonight where top of the league Port Vale face second from bottom AFC Wimbledon. Despite collecting 7 points in their last 3 games, It will take a lot of grit and determination from the wombling wombles to overcome a Valiant side who have picked up 30 of their 52 points on the road this season. Vale have only been beaten twice away from home this season and are undefeated in their last 5 trips away from Vale Park. A match day chant which has become popular between the Valiant’s supporters “Super Vale Away” is certainly living up to it’s reputation as we can only really see one outcome for tonight’s clash.

AFC Wimbledon have only strung together 2 back to back wins this season and have spent most of the season going behind first and losing out by a single goal. Out of their far from impressive 26 points this campaign only 10 have come at home and the visit of the league leaders looks set to keep that statistic in check as Vale have the best away record in League 2.

The transfer window thus far has only bolstered the Valiant’s squad with experience from higher divisions and players who have escaped League 2 in recent seasons. On the team sheet tonight you could well expect new boys Chris Birchall, Plymouth’s experienced ex captain Darren Purse, Lee Hughes and Daniel Jones. Vale’s second appearance on Sky Sports in as many months looks to be a win to open up a 4 point lead on second place Gillingham.
